Dental X-Rays for Kids in Springfield, MO
X-rays are one of those topics parents have real questions about. Fair questions. Here’s how we use them, and how we keep your kid safe.
Not at every visit. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends timing x-rays based on each child’s individual cavity risk and stage of development. A kid with no cavities and a low-risk diet might only need x-rays every two or three years. A kid with a history of cavities or crowded teeth might need them more often.
We make this call together. You’ll always know why we’re recommending an x-ray before we take one.
We use digital sensors, which take a fraction of the radiation of older film x-rays. Every patient gets a lead apron and a thyroid collar. We point the beam exactly where we need it and we stop when we have what we need.
The radiation from a full set of pediatric dental x-rays is less than what a kid is exposed to on a single cross-country flight.
Tell, Show, Do every step. We let your child practice biting on the sensor before it goes in. Some kids are pros on the first try. Some need a few tries. Some kids gag and we adjust technique. We never push it.
Kids with sensory or behavioral needs sometimes do better with smaller sensors, a parent in the chair, or a calmer pace. We have all of that ready.
A confident smile can make a big difference in your child's life. We're here to help every young patient achieve a healthy smile they can be proud to share.
