Dental Sealants for Kids in Springfield, MO

If we could pick one preventative thing for every kid, sealants would be on the short list. Cheap, fast, painless, and they save a lot of teeth.

What sealants do

Permanent molars come in with deep grooves on the chewing surface. Toothbrush bristles can’t reach the bottom of those grooves. Food gets in, bacteria stay, and cavities start. A sealant is a thin protective coating we paint over those grooves to smooth the surface and keep food out.

When kids should get sealants

AAPD recommends sealants on permanent molars as soon as they erupt. That usually means:

  • First permanent molars: around age 6
  • Second permanent molars: around age 12

Some primary molars are also good candidates if they have deep grooves and your child is high-risk for cavities.

How the appointment goes

No drilling. No shots. We clean the tooth, paint on a quick conditioner, rinse, paint on the sealant, and harden it with a small light. The whole thing takes a few minutes per tooth and your kid feels nothing more than a soft brush.

How long sealants last

Years. We check them at every cleaning and touch up or replace them when needed.

What about cost?

Most insurance plans cover sealants for kids. We’ll let you know what to expect before we do anything. If you don’t have insurance, our Smile Savings Club includes sealants in the plan.
