Who it's good for
- Kids who are anxious but otherwise cooperative
- Kids with longer appointments where the nerves can build up
- Kids who had a tough experience at another office and need a gentler reset
- Some patients with special needs, depending on the situation
Safety
Nitrous oxide is one of the safest sedation tools in dentistry, and AAPD endorses its use. We monitor your child throughout the procedure. The effects clear within minutes after the mask comes off, before you even leave the chair.
Eat-and-drink rules
A light meal a couple hours before the appointment is fine. Skip the heavy stuff. Most kids can eat normally a few minutes after the appointment ends.
Behavior management first
Most kids don’t actually need nitrous. Tell, Show, Do, a calm chair, and a steady team go a long way. We’ll only suggest nitrous when it’s likely to help. And we’ll always talk it through with you before we do anything.
